the forgotten sight

the forgotten sight
doran damon okkema
let's pursue these visions
and get this friendship right
invoke the past believers
for guidence to the light
through worlds bred in confusion
made blind by fruitless plights
those mystic incantations
bring heaven into sight
what great reward
our treasure be
if we believe
before we see

Hi Doran,
I picked up your blog from your post on Micah's blog.
You are are fine young poet. I particularly liked "Rain" and "Empty House." In those the depth of your person as an observer struck me especially keenly. I am, perhaps understandably, less enthusiastic about the realized sexuality in several of the poems, but what did speak with clarity in them (as well as the "faded love" poems) was tenderness and respect. That, I appreciate.
Thanks for writing the poems.
We wish you well in your efforts to be an actor.
Yours in Christ,
Your Uncle John
Thank you for the comment, uncle john. my poetry is a reflection of myself... or at least i want it to be, so i include even my weakness, and my sin. i don't want to hide from the mistakes i've made, but rather salvage something meaningful from the mess (and hopefully learn from it!). i suppose that's part of why i've included poems about intimate relationships i've had in the past.
my priest has often told me (recalling the words of St. Paul), that if you are going to sin, sin out loud that your brothers and sisters in Christ can see, and help you to redemption.
in Christ,
Doran
